WGIM Materials and Corrosion BHPB Macedon Development

BHP Billiton Petroleum Pty Ltd (BHPB) plans to develop the Macedon gas field by producing and delivering natural gas to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) near Onslow. The Macedon Gas field was discovered in 1992 and appraised during 1993 – 1994 of which BHPB Petroleum is operator with 71.43% share and Apache holding the balance of 28.57%.

The Macedon and adjacent Pyrenees fields are located in offshore production license WA-42-L which is situated in the Northern Carnarvon Basin, approximately 100 km west of Onslow and 40 km north of Exmouth, Western Australia. The initial production from the four subsea wells in approximately 180 m water depth will be routed to an Onshore Gas Plant (OGP) via a subsea manifold and a wet gas pipeline, for dehydration, hydrocarbon dewpointing and compression prior to delivery to the sales gas pipeline.

From April through September, WGIM will provide Materials, Corrosion and Integrity engineering services for this new development project.

Project Scope:

  • Materials and Coatings Validation
  • Corrosion and Erosion Modelling
  • Cathodic Protection Design
  • Integrity Management Plans (Corrosion, Erosion and IMM)
  • Pipeline Emergency Repair Plan
