IONIK Consulting Joint Industry Projects

Complementary Corrosion & Erosion Research

Following a detailed fact finding review and analysis of the business requirements for growth, IONIK Consulting ("IONIK") have joined both the Ohio University Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology Corrosion Centre JIP and the Tulsa University Sand Management Programs JIP. The company membership is for a 3 year period starting in January 2009.  IONIK is the only materials engineering consulting firm to join these JIPs thus giving our clients a unique opportunity to access these state of the art tools.

The two JIP`s complement one another: the Ohio JIP addresses CO2 corrosion as the mainstay failure mechanism and uses corrosion modeling techniques developed over the past several years; the latest software model is the MULTICORP corrosion prediction software (currently v4). In contrast the Tulsa software looks at sand erosion as the prime failure mode and uses established theoretical and empirical testing to model and predict such threats. The software involves the use of the TU-SMP suite of sand management programs.

Both JIP`s also look at combination effects, and in the absence of bone fide industry codes of practice in this area, will give IONIK significant leverage in the decision making process. Overall the membership of the JIPs will invigorate our worldwide contribution to materials, corrosion and integrity management and accentuate our continued credibility in these compelling areas.

The results can be expected to promote best practice, safe, cost effective, and regulation compliant solutions. The combination will help IONIK provide clients with pragmatic life cycle asset integrity as well as giving our clients access to first class applied R&D.
