IONIK (Houston) to Develop Integrity Management & Change Management Plan

BP Mad Dog Repair Project

IONIK Consulting, ("IONIK"), part of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC ("Wood Group") www.woodgroup.com, has been awarded a contract by BP US (NYSE:BP) to provide the Integrity Management (IM) and Change Management (CM) design and support to their “Mad Dog Rig Repair” (MDRR) Project. Located in Block Green Canyon Number 782, in 4,500 feet of water some 190 miles south of New Orleans, Mad Dog is the second of four gigantic fields discovered by BP in late 1990s. It is also one of the top 10 largest discoveries to-date in the Gulf of Mexico.

In 2008, the Mad Dog spar was subjected to Hurricane Ike with winds in excess of 120mph battering the platform causing the drilling derrick to be torn from the platform and plunge into the Gulf of Mexico before finally resting on the ocean floor.

The MDRR Project encompasses the fabrication of a new Drilling Equipment Set (DES) and Drilling Support Module. Both the DSM and DES will be integrated and commissioned onshore then installed offshore using a heavy lift vessel. Once the rig is set, integrated to the facility, and handed over to drilling operations it is planned that the repaired rig will complete seven additional wells plus side tracks to capture an additional 92mmboe. First production from the first well drilled by the new rig is expected in the 2013.

As IM providers, IONIK were selected following a number of successful IM related projects with BP, such as King South and Dorado subsea tie-backs to the Marlin Platform. Utilizing their industry-wide experience and expertise, IONIK will work with BP to prevent and mitigate integrity-related losses associated with safety, environment, business and reputation through the development of an effective and efficient IM Program . The program will encompass risk assessment, life-cycle strategies, hazard evaluation & protective systems to ensure compliance with BP’s Global IM Implementation Program.

IONIK will also be responsible for the project’s change management process. The process will establish and ensure that the measures necessary to confirm that HSSE and operational risks arising from proposed temporary and permanent changes are managed to an appropriate level throughout the project. Effective use of change control and management of change will help BP decrease the risk of cost growth and schedule delays, as well as maintaining the technical integrity while eliminating changes that could compromise the safety, functionality, or operability of the platform.
